This is a calendar for 2013, which fits perfectly on a Fat Quarter - please look at the 'Swatch' size to see the details!
The calendar is designed to imitate Japanese Sashiko embroideries, which actually aren't 'embroideries' as in 'just decorative', but a way of mending and recycling torn clothes.
Some of the traditional patterns, like Bishamon-Kikko, Dan-Tsunagi, Jyuji-Tsunagi, Mukai- Kikko, Yabane and Nowaki (just to name a few!) are bordering this design; and all months / days / numbers are, of course, created with imitated Sashiko stitches.
The background of the design imitates yarn-dyed indigo fabric, with the typical, slightly irregular, greenish-blue weave.
If you were always wondering how different colors print on the various fabrics that Spoonflower offers, please do have a look at my website where I have quite a few comprehensive photos of color swatches printed on various fabrics!
