NEW LONGER VERSION TO BE AVAILABLE SOON for a LINEN-COTTON FAT QUARTER. The Michigan Mitt was designed to meet Etsy's 2012 Craft Party theme: "Wish You Were Here" that encourages us to work together on projects that reflect our hometown – to think about local and regional crafts, music, style and food; ways to pay tribute to a notable landmark or place; an activity that tells local lore through handmade means; or any creative project that has local flavor. Instructions for 1 oven mitt: cut 4 pcs. of printed Michigan Mitt fat quarter fabric using the Michigan Mitt fabric pieces as a template, cut two slightly larger pieces of both cotton + insulating batting = 4 pieces layer materials in this order: front MM fabric + insulating batting + cotton batting + back MM fabric – to make 2 separate sets machine quilt each set, using quilting stitch of your choice stack 2 quilted sets together: fabric fronts facing together with fabric backs facing out sew 1/4” seam all around leaving a 2” gap un-sewn at bottom edge of mitt trim seam and clip curves where necessary turn inside out through gap stitch gap closed by hand or machine Instructions for mitt-shaped potholder x 2: cut 4 pcs. of printed Michigan Mitt fat quarter fabric using the Michigan Mitt fabric pieces as a template, cut two slightly larger pieces of both cotton + insulating batting = 4 pieces layer printed fabric with each type of batting to make 4 separate sets (front MM fabric with insulating batting, back MM fabric with cotton batting) machine quilt each set separately, using quilting stitch of your choice stack 1 set with insulating batting on top of 1 set with cotton batting set, fronts together and both battings facing out. sew 1/4” seam all around leaving 2” gap un-sewn trim seam and clip curves where necessary turn inside out through gap stitch gap closed by hand or machine repeat for second potholder Optional: use the black and white "map border" piece of fabric to create a loop, placing it on the seam prior to sewing sets together. Or as additional trim on the bottom edge of the mitt. Note: two sets of oven mitts could be made by using a different inner fabric for both sets.
