Collection: Vintage Motifs
Hi! I live in the Pacific Northwest (near Seattle, WA) and enjoy art and design of all kinds. I create costumes and clothing, sew, make jewelry, paint, draw, create block prints, etc; and have always wanted to be a fabric designer. Spoonflower rocks!!

I found all these vintage people in bins and boxes of old photos at an antique store and made collages with copies of the photos (don't worry, I woudn't tear the originals!) and added bits of torn crocheted lace, old stamps, patterned paper, etc.
It made me sad that there were so many beautiful and fascinating old pictures that weren't being cherished by the descendants of the people in the photos. They should be treasured family mementoes, kept in photo albums and beautiful frames, not sold to strangers in antique shops! But maybe these people have no remaining descendants? Maybe now it is up to strangers like me to treasure these old ancestors, even though they aren't my own.

I have a whole cardboard box of instant relatives. I don't know who they are, or where they lived, but since I don't have pictures of real ones, my instant ones are great fun. Better yet, they don't come over uninvited on Sunday afternoon, or get into a huff if you don't call on their birthday. Instant relatives are far more fun than flesh and blood ones. Let's hear it for the truly "extended" family.
