When researching vintage clothing from this era I found several common themes when it came to dress up party wear. Although there were some large and lovely florals it seemed the fashion really wasn't that colorful. Polka dots were cool and use a lot. There were a lot of Damask prints and many solid prints with lace overlays. The more wild pop art stuff seems to have entered the fashion stage in the very late 50's and into the 60's. Using a little trick I stumbled upon while playing with images I created a 3D Damask pattern that represents lace over a solid field of gray. This is my entry in the Mid-century cocktail dress contest. The swatch came out perfect and shows the dimension well. Very happy with the test.
