Salons of 1901 book Maurice Hamel wrote.... Art is one of the highest functions of the human mind.... I couldn't agree more, Where would we be without its beauty. This book is one of my most treasured keepsakes given to me by my Boss and dearest friend Willard E. Johnson II who owned Colonial Art Gallery a picture house est. in 1919 by his father. Although most the engravings were removed and sold at the gallery I was able to purchase the Frontispiece from this book the watercolor gravure of The Book with the Red Carnations by EDGAR MAXENCE. I loved the job and working with Shelly so much while they were here in Tulsa I interned and traded my time for art. It was my Dream Job and I learned so much about artwork that was hundreds of years old and meet so many nice people and gallery owners. Colonial was known at one time as the Worlds Largest Picture House and supplied State Capital Buildings, Colleges, and other Federal Buildings with pictures of the Presidents and many famous people. I was able to pick from hundreds of vintage prints that I have given to friends and family through the years.
