The pattern on this fabric is as close as we could get it and work commenced a year before we had the final product. The original gown was a semi-sheer silk and used a whopping 18 yards. The skirt took most of this, nine panels each about 1.75 yards long with a deep hem, gathered to the waistband. The remaining fabric was used for the bodice and the circular-cut ruffles. To reproduce this gown, I'd suggest silk crepe de chine or cotton voile. Both are semi-sheer, but one is silk and so closer to the film, and the other is a lesser expensive cotton.
