Exploring a color palette of principally reds and golds - from dark to bright and light. Quite pleased with how the many different reds printed in the proof. I also tested it on cotton voile - shown in the thumbnails above, and then had it printed on cotton sateen for my own use - also shown in the thumbnails (double click gives a clearer view).
'Gold and red plaid by Su_G' is a companion design.
Metallic oils on canvas, embellished. Designed for a mirror repeat.

Amy thanks so much for your lovely feedback - I had so much fun embellishing this design, and I keep thinking how lovely it would be in a yoked gathered skirt - it's definitely on my (huge) sewing to do list!

Su, this is what I call a gorgeous plaid, great embellishing on the plaid!
The close up shows how well the fine detail of the golden flames and other motifs printed on the cotton sateen (daylight photo).

The reds and golds printed so well - yardage on cotton sateen (daylight photo).

Thanks for your lovely comment Tina, some of this was an exercise in opacity, and the rest was playing with a red and gold color scheme that I was obsessed with at the time... I was astonished at how well it printed, I have some yardage which I need to photograph to show off!

Beautiful design and it printed so well! I love the delicate lines with the thick stripes!
Thanks for the lovely comment Cal, I do like the idea of 'fit for a queen' - pity that's not a big market these days :-)
Fit for a queen! Stunning design and delicious colors.
Thanks for the feedback Susan, I was quite impressed with how all the different colors printed on the voile as well as the sateen, I have some of this in yardage (in the sateen) and it just looks great in a big piece.
Really rich colors - perfect for the holidays and winter.
Swatch printed on cotton voile - showing variations in transparency depending on under-surface, lighting and shadows (daylight photo).
Swatch printed on cotton sateen - not as bright as the design image, but the different reds show pretty well (daylight photo).
The voile is a great idea Sue Ellen, I will follow that up, curious now myself too, thanks for that!

I like the gauze-y look of this pattern. Have you tried it on the voile yet? I'll bet it's knockout, if the colors come through. Does the metallic-ness show up? Too bad SF doesn't have a sari silk to print this on, that would be fantastic.
Thanks so much for the lovely comment, & the idea of blending it into a crest... may do something yet if I get time...
This design is so pretty. It would also blend into a "crest design" I would think. I loved seeing the red collection pop up on the side when the design loaded.

Thanks for the comments Rhonda and Isabella - maybe I had that glassware in mind when I got this colour scheme in my head...
I see an intimate dinner setting, by flickering candlelight, in this gorgeous design, Su. Fabulous!
In her bevelled glass china cabinet, my mother had some beautiful ruby glassware etched with a pretty gold pattern. This colourway of your gorgeous design reminds me of it.
Thanks so much for the comments on this work-in-progress - you encourage me to go on with it! Rebecca I know what you mean about an interesting plaid, it is amazing how the most awful ones are chosen for school uniforms - I;m sure youc an develop something much better!
This is SUPER FAB Su! There is so much going on here! I love all the feminine details, and the squares are so unexpected.... but they seem to make everything pop. This is so elegant, it would make a great woven shawl... or a throw. Sincerely stunning Su!
Oh Su! You just keep outdoing yourself! Ive been trying to come up with a more interesting plaid for my DD's school without breaking tradition too much (and it's difficult!). If only all little school girls could wear such a lovely plaid to school they wouldn't be begrudging their uniforms any longer. They would think they were royalty! XD
Everything about this is so interesting. I love the depths of the color and the transparent effects. The flourishes serve as a great contrast to the angular weave.
