A lot of the themes that hippies recycled in the Haight Ashbury days were not created wholly by the teens and twenty-somethings of the 1960's. They came from the 1880's. Just take a look at old Burpee seed catalogs of that era. The twisting text and dripping lines were all from the 1880-1920 times, and there were objects from those eras still in second hand stores or attics in the sixties.
This big, bold, psychedelic hippie design couples the 1880's into art nouveau line borrowed by the hippies, and casts it in psychedelic loud colors.
