About the Design

My oil painting Cascades, when printed in this whole cloth version on Linen Cotton Canvas Ultra, is

ready to stretch and frame.

Now here's an economical way to have art in your home! Personally, I have never had the nerve to go boating or rafting on river rapids, but I sure enjoy painting them! Water cascading and splashing over huge rocks in a river is so exciting! The original painting was done while I was taking an online course with Daniel Edmondson, an amazing painter and instructor. He is unique in that he gives his reference photos to his students and encourages them to use art created in the course in any way they choose. This was my first attempt at painting water and I was quite nervous. I was also delighted with the way it turned out. Colors are brown, tan, aquamarine, phthalo blue, and subdued greens. The palette also includes a generous helping of purple. If you would also like to see the fabric designs developed using this painting as a starting point, please check out the my "River Cascades" collection, which you can easily find by using the drop down menu on my Collections page. In my opinion, the designs in the above collection would make amazing clothing for the outdoor enthusiast, especially shirts and blouses. They would also make really fun tote bags, and could work well for an upholstered chair for your den or lake cabin. It would also be a lot of fun to use for quilting. Just let me know if you need this resized! Happy sewing! Copyright Mary K Wykes 2-16-15
