About the Design

This design, based on ancient Norwegian/Viking runes, actually began as a prayer, a plea for God to

help my son overcome difficulties

Sometimes I use art as meditative prayer. That is how this particular design began. I researched Norwegian runes, Viking runes, as I am half Norwegian. I used runes symbolizing a journey, a gateway, a breakthrough, wholeness, need, patience, rest and protection. Then I added the Morse code symbol for SOS . . . and that was my plea to God for my son . . . intervention to help him find his way out of severe difficulties. Once I had my symbols, I used them in a style, with no preconceived idea of where I was headed. The original painting ended up being a kind of crazy piece - with my friends and relatives seeing very different pictures within it. It was a large watercolor painting (prints and note cards available at mary-wykes.pixels.com). In the first version of this fabric design, I envisioned my son riding strong and free into the future. This second design is a digitally reflected version of that design. Prefer this design in a different size? No problem! Just ask. I am happy to oblige. Copyright Mary K Wykes 4.16.2016
