At home you color with joyful abandon, adding blue to green in great rainbow scrapes. Then you start school and every time you paint or color the adults ask you what the picture is supposed to be, as if it was supposed to"be" anything other than blue and pink swishes. And the adults tell you to stay between the lines. And the adults hang up the ugly pictures of misshapen houses and Mrs Potatohead mommies that are just circles with stick figure arms sticking out, and say that they are good. But they don't say joyous swishes are good. Then you go to college and the adults say to make joyful abstract swishes, but by that time you have spent your life coloring between the lines. These Victorian Gothic boxes combine the traditional pink and blue baby colors with red and white, in a formal and orderly way that kindergarten teachers would approve of. But they don't quite fill in the colors to those lines. There is white in the blue and some blue in the pink. Only the red outlines are completely where they should be, and I have my suspicions about those subversive reds. (file w181y6-ch, #4970284)
