Shortly after my 16 year old cat lost his lifelong cat companion Milo, I went out for milk one day and came home with a beagle puppy we named Maggie. After a couple days of getting to know each other (in other words, cowering at the top of the stairs and Maggie merrily bounding through the house chewing and peeing on everything) the two forged a reluctant friendship. After a few months I'd catch them sharing a bowl of food and sleeping pressed up next to each other in a patch of sunlight. Ahh, puppy love!
