About the Design

'Plush' equines to sew up into thread-jointed (posable) toys. 1 in a Fat Quarter of 56 Inch wide or

6 different in56 inch wide yard.

Plump Pinto, 2 Zaftig Zebras, Quitea Quagga, Dumpy Donkey, Packed Palomino and 2 bonus simple horses are in this design. IMPORTANT: Fabrics vary in width- the full design is made to take advantage of the wider fabrics while still giving you a single complete toy in a fat quarter in most of the narrower widths.Spoonflower's fabric options may change. Please be sure the view shows all the pieces you need. I used the Performance Pique- it's wide enough to give you 6 thread-jointed horses, plus 2 small bonus horses that are so simple I've not given instructions. I recommend test sewing on scraps of whatever fabric you purchase, in case you need to change needle or adjust setting for best results. After I made this design, Spoonflower added Minky to their fabric line. It's not wide enough to include the bonus horses, but will get you all of the full size horses. And Minky is so soft and cuddly, I'm sorry it wasn't available when I made the sample horses. *After test sewing, I changed the seam allowance to match the horse color. The fabric photos show the original gray seam allowances. The design is otherwise the same, but now minor variations in seam width won't show bits of gray.* Hefty Horses Instructions (this is printed on the fabric.) Do NOT cut off 1/4 inch light gray seam alllowances. DO clip the black lines into the seam allowances. Sew matching fronts together from nose along belly to bottom. Sew head gusset between fronts from nose to top of head. Sew matching backs together from top around mane, leave gap for turning, sew below turning gap to bottom.Sew fronts to backs. Turn and sew down on dotted line to flatten mane. Fold legs in half along the clip marks. For hind legs, sew from top of leg to hoof, leaving the bottom of the hoof open for turning. For ‘arms’ sew around top, stopping at gap, then sew past gap to complete seam. Fold ears in half along clip marks, sew, leaving bottom open for turning. Fold tail in half, long sides meeting. Sew long sides, leaving top and bottom both open. Turn all pieces right side out. Stuff body, ‘arms’ and legs. Sew turning openings shut (sew around hooves to shut.) Fold in bottom seam allowances on ears, sew to head. Using a long, strong needle attach thread firmly to body side seam where you want the arm then sew straight through the inside of the arm half an inch from the top, place the needle slightly away from where it came out and sew straight back through the arm and body, going through the other arm the same way, several times, pulling thread tight so limbs indent into the body and will stay as posed. Knot thread securely under arm where it won’t be seen. Repeat with legs. Fold in top seam allowance on tail, sew to body. Turn in and sew bottom seam allowance on tail.
