was an orange and several walnuts per tradition.
During the Great Depression money was tight and parents didn't have the money to buy presents at Christmas. It was a treat to find sweet things and putting an orange and walnuts into the stocking was a special gift during that time. It was considered a luxury at the time. My parents received them in their stockings and they passed on that tradition to me. So as a child I also received oranges and walnuts in my stocking to carry on the tradition. These oranges and textures have Pantones new color of the year Viva Magenta prominently featured as well.
