tiny section of one of my oil paintings.
When I look at this design, or the associated painting, my mind jumps back to a portrait I was painting of an elderly woman whose dress had a detailed lace collar. The thought of painting it scared the bejeebers out of me but my instructor laughed and said not to even try to paint it exactly as it was. Being a perfectionist I found that inconceivable but I attempted to follow her instructions and just put little dabs of color approximately where the lace had holes. Voilá! Within a few minutes I had a beautiful lace collar! I was totally fascinated and quite proud of myself. I used the same principle in painting the lace tablecloth for the painting in this collection. Then, to create this coordinate, I clipped out a section, adapted it to this situation and mirrored it. The next step was to repeat the motif I had created to form this lovely, lacy stripe. copyright - Mary Beglau Wykes - April 27, 2021
