I was thrilled to see every one of the members of our merry band step up to the staff contest design challenge. For some it was a first attempt at designing fabric, but from my standpoint everyone acquitted themselves admirably. The winner by a long shot -- and this came as no surprise to any of us -- was Danielle with her Queeny Brass fabric. Longtime followers of the Spoonflower saga may remember that not only was Danielle was the first non-familial employee to join Spoonflower but she did so, at the very beginning, as a volunteer back before we had money to pay people. We're lucky to have her. Not only will Danielle's lovely design soon adorn our staff sofa, but we'll have a special something for her at the staff meeting this week (shhh!). Once a year we turn the tables and put the Spoonflower team to the test by asking them to come up with some designs for our weekly design challenge (which is easier for some than others, as you might imagine). We'll share the special details about this contest on the blog. Voting for the staff contest will open on March 13th, 2014.

April showers bring May flowers. And what do you need to stay dry? A good pair of rain boots. Create a design that celebrates the trusty rubber boot. Previews will be sized as quarter yards (21" x 18"). Deadline for entry is Tuesday, March 25th, 2014.
Spoonflower cofounder Stephen Fraser is predicting that whales are going to be huge in 2014. All designs submitted must use a restricted palette (visible here) and previews will be shown at (21" x 18"). Deadline for entry is April 1st, 2014.
