Spoonflower staff contest Designs

Spoonflower Design Challenge: February 09, 2011

I was thrilled to see every one of the members of our merry band step up to the staff contest design challenge. For some it was a first attempt at designing fabric, but from my standpoint everyone acquitted themselves admirably. The winner by a long shot -- and this came as no surprise to any of us -- was Danielle with her Queeny Brass fabric. Longtime followers of the Spoonflower saga may remember that not only was Danielle was the first non-familial employee to join Spoonflower but she did so, at the very beginning, as a volunteer back before we had money to pay people. We're lucky to have her. Not only will Danielle's lovely design soon adorn our staff sofa, but we'll have a special something for her at the staff meeting this week (shhh!). Upcoming contests

It's time to dust off that microscope and show us your best microorganism themed design! Microorganisms (or microbes) are incredibly diverse and can be found in every part of our biosphere. Adaptable to any conditions, thriving wherever they are? Sounds like we could all learn a thing or two from these tiny microbes! Deadline for entry is Tuesday, October 13th, 2015. Voting will open Thursday, October 15th, 2015. All fabrics in this design challenge are previewed using the scale of a test swatch of fabric (8"x8").

Post-apocalyptic toile

Imagine a future scenario where the collapse of society prompts humanity to reorganize and your safety and survival to become a constant struggle – who lives and who doesn't? What consists of daily life? Use your imagination to think up your best toile with a post-apocalyptic theme! Voting will open Thursday, October 22nd, 2015. All fabrics in this design challenge are previewed using the scale of a fat quarter (21"x18").

2016 tea towel calendars

It's that time of year again! Design a tea towel calendar for 2016 that fits a fat quarter-yard of our Linen-Cotton Canvas fabric. Entries will be previewed at the scale of a fat quarter (27" x 18", this means the preview will be oriented horizontally). Deadline for entry is Tuesday, October 27th, 2015.

In preparation for the holiday feeding frenzy of baked goods and rich meals, let's work on a little fitness to try to balance it all out. Show us your best fitness themed designs from barbells to yoga poses and everything in between. Deadline for entry is Tuesday, November 3rd, 2015. Voting will open Thursday, November 5th, 2015.

Moon phases

Do you have your eyes to the night sky? Sky gazers everywhere look forward to each full moon and magic that comes along with it. The full moon that occurs closest to the autumnal equinox is commonly referred to as the "Harvest Moon" since its bright presence in the night sky allows farmers to work longer into the fall night, reaping the rewards of their spring and summer labors. What's your favorite moon phase? Share it with us by making a design inspired by the moon! Deadline for entry is Tuesday, November 10th, 2015. Voting will open Thursday, November 12th, 2015.

Family portraits

We're heading into the thick of the holiday season, which for most of us means we will be surrounded by family and friends. What better opportunity to create some sketches inspired by our beloved kin and turn them into a surface design? Previews will be sized at a fat quarter (21" x 18"). Deadline for entry is Tuesday, November 17th, 2015. Voting will open Thursday, November 19th, 2015 and will stay open for two weeks instead of just one (we're skipping a contest week in observance of Thanksgiving).

Holiday gift bag

Solve the annual holiday quandary of finding the perfect gift bag! Get ahead of the game by designing your own to give to your loved ones! Create a cut and sew design for your ideal holiday gift bag, including original artwork, sewing pattern, instructions– and don't forget the drawstring! Please note that previews will be sized on a larger fat quarter size (27" x 18") to accommodate big gifts like holiday wine and spirits! Deadline for entry is Tuesday, December 1st, 2015. Voting will open Thursday, December 3rd, 2015.
