The winner of our cat fabric contest is Bora, otherwise known as Dutch artist Deborah van de Leijgraaf. This is Bora's fourth Fabric Of the Week win, which officially puts her in the company of a small handful of Spoonflower fabric design all-stars. Like her all-star predecessors, Cean Irminger and SammyK, Bora has requested that we donate $100 to a charity -- Heifer.org -- in lieu of awarding her the usual prize of free fabric. That's a lovely way to end a terrific 2010, no? There's still time to buy an end-of-year flock of geese for yourself! Fun trivia from Bora's blog: when not illustrating, Bora is a cat-loving, motorcycle-riding, accordian-playing new mom. But how many of those things can she do simultaneously? Thank you, Bora! Ring in the New Year wearing a festive party hat that you made yourself! In this Design Challenge we're asking you to create a cut & sew pattern for a party hat (for kids, adults, or pets!). Previews will be shown at the fat quarter fabric size (21" x 18"). Deadline for entry is Tuesday, December 17th, 2013.
This week, designers should use hand-lettering to write a New Year's resolution. Additional design elements are welcome, but the design must have text that has a hand-lettered appearance, and describes a resolution. Previews will be shown at the fat quarter fabric size (21" x 18"). Deadline for entry is Tuesday, December 31st, 2013 (yes, that's New Year's Eve!).
It may be the middle of winter, but we're already quilting for spring! This week, we're asking contestants to create a cheater quilt block with a spring floral theme. Cheater quilt blocks feature fabric designed and printed to look like patchwork or applique so that you can skip the piecework and go straight for quilting. All designs submitted must use a restricted palette (visible here, and white) and previews will be shown at (21" x 18"). Deadline for entry is January 7th, 2014.
Instructions and rules for our weekly fabric design contests appear on our upcoming contests page .
