What a great bunch of fabric designs we saw for this contest! Who knew root vegetables would make such inspired textile designs? We are excited to announce that the winner is Tamara Serrao, the Montreal-based designer known on Spoonflower as Kayajoy. This is Tamara's fourth win and it's fun looking back through her previous triumphs in the sharks, rain and imaginary animals contests. They're all great. But if you do nothing else fabric-related today, please check out this week's top ten. Read more about Fabrics For Your Root Fabric Cellar: Winner Of Our Root Vegetable Contest.
Ring in the New Year wearing a festive party hat that you made yourself! In this Design Challenge we're asking you to create a cut & sew pattern for a party hat (for kids, adults, or pets!). Previews will be shown at the fat quarter fabric size (21" x 18"). Deadline for entry is Tuesday, December 17th, 2013.
This week, designers should use hand-lettering to write a New Year's resolution. Additional design elements are welcome, but the design must have text that has a hand-lettered appearance, and describes a resolution. Previews will be shown at the fat quarter fabric size (21" x 18"). Deadline for entry is Tuesday, December 31st, 2013 (yes, that's New Year's Eve!).
It may be the middle of winter, but we're already quilting for spring! This week, we're asking contestants to create a cheater quilt block with a spring floral theme. Cheater quilt blocks feature fabric designed and printed to look like patchwork or applique so that you can skip the piecework and go straight for quilting. All designs submitted must use a restricted palette (visible here) and previews will be shown at (21" x 18"). Deadline for entry is January 7th, 2014.
